Welcome to William Fox Soccer!

William Fox Elementary School offers soccer teams for players of all abilities in Pre-K through 6th grades (ages 4 to 12 years old). There is an Fall and a Spring season.
Approximately half of all Fox students participate in this popular program that is also a fundraiser for the WFES PTA!

Seasons and Age Groups

Pre-K – 1st grade (U-6 and U-7)

The U-6 and U-7 Fall season is September to October/November and the Spring season is March to April/May.

There are 6 games and one make-up date at the end, if needed.

Autumn registration will begin in August and spring registration in February.

These teams practice and play on Friday evenings: at 4pm for U6 and 5pm for U7 on the field behind our school.  Specific game dates will be available when registration closes for that season.

2nd – 5th grade (U8, U10 and U12)

The U-8, U-10 and U-12 Richmond City Parks and Recreation League seasons specific dates are not available until we receive them from the league.   The seasons consist of 7 or 8 games, with the Fall season including playoffs including the top 4 teams per U-10 and U-12 Divisions.

These teams practice during the week depending on Coaching availability and play on Saturdays, U-8 at Humphery Calder and U-10 and U-12 at Bryan Park.

For the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 Season, the age groups are as follows:

U-6: Co-ed under 6 years of age - Born between 8/1/2012 and 7/31/2014
U-7: Co-ed under 7 years of age - Born between 8/1/2011 and 7/31/2012
U-8: Co-ed under 8 years of age - Born between 8/1/2010 and 7/31/2011
(Fox 1st graders are assigned to U-7 unless parents request they “play up”)

U-10: Co-ed under 10 years of age - Born between 8/1/2008 and 7/31/2010
U-12: Co-ed under 12 years of age- Born between 8/1/2006 and 7/31/2008
** Players may "play up", upon committee approval
** Players may NOT “play down” to a younger division.

*ATTENTION:  IF YOUR CHILD IS CURRENTLY ROSTERED WITH A TRAVEL SOCCER TEAM, THEY ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO PLAY IN THE U8-U12 CITY PARKS AND RECREATION LEAGUE.  Any player who disregards this rule will forfeit their registration fee and will be removed from the team, as their participation in any games will result in a forfeit for their team.

There are two U-8 teams – U-7 and U-8.  What’s the difference?

Typically, Fox first graders play on the U-7 team (against other Fox students after school on Fridays) while Fox second graders play on the Richmond City U-8 league (against other City schools on Saturdays).  If you feel your first grader is up to the challenge, you may request that your child “play up” and join the older players on the City U-8 league team.

How do I register?

Online registration is now available –

Click the "Login/Register" button to begin.  If you have trouble with this, or know of someone who does not have internet access to register, please contact Chris Holmes at 804-212-4129, or the Fox Soccer Committee at

** Parents of U-8, U-10 and U-12 players must provide one copy of your child’s birth certificate (as required by the City Parks and Recreation Dept) each season.  If registering online, please bring the copy to the coach at the first practice/game.  Your child will not be allowed to play until it is received.  **

** There is an additional $20 charge for non-city residents playing in the Saturday U-8, U-10 and U-12 leagues (as required by the City Parks and Recreation Dept) each season.  **

Registration Deadlines and Waiting Lists

In order to provide rosters to the City and our coaches, as well as deliver team uniforms in a timely manner, all registrations must be received by the deadline indicated.   Under special circumstances and at the discretion of the Soccer Committee, late registrations may be accepted.  If a late registration is accepted, there will be a $10 late fee charged.

There are a limited number of player registrations available, based on number of coaches.  When the teams reach capacity, we will begin a waiting list in the order of registration.  If space becomes available, we will accept players from the waiting list.

Team Assignments and Practice Times

Registration is first come, first served, with current Fox students given priority.  Teams will be created based on coach and field availability.  We will also try to balance the teams based on age.  When possible, returning players will be grouped with their returning teammates and coach.

U-6 and U-7 teams practice and play on Fridays (30-minute practice followed by a 30-minute game).  U-6 begins at 4 p.m.  U- 7 begins at 5 p.m.

U-8, U-10 and U-12 teams typically practice at Fox or Humphrey Calder, 1-2 days per week, at the discretion of the coach.  Games are played on Saturdays, at Bryan Park, or Humprey Calder Community Center.

Can I request a specific coach, or practice day?

If your child played the previous season at Fox, we will try to keep them on their existing team and with their returning coach.  If you have a specific request, please indicate it in the registration comments.  We will try our best to accommodate you.

Once your child has been assigned a coach, he/she will contact you regarding practice days and times.  If you have a conflict with a specific practice day, please indicate that in the registration comments.  We will try our best to accommodate you.

** Please make any special requests prior to the close of registration.  Team rosters are formed when registration is closed and it becomes more difficult to make changes.

I would like to help out, do you need volunteers?

We always need volunteer coaches and assistants.  Fox and the City League have a coaches’ training session each season.  If you are interested, please contact the Co-chairs listed below.

What equipment is needed?

The Fox uniform consists of a purple Fox jersey, black shorts, purple socks, shin guards and soccer cleats/sneakers.   For new players, purple Fox jerseys and socks can be purchased at registration.
All players MUST wear shin guards - please make sure your child has these for the first game.

Go Green, Recycle Your Old Gear!

If you have old equipment, the soccer committee is accepting donations of used equipment.  Please put it in the Soccer Box in the school office.  We will make sure it is received by deserving players.
If you need equipment, please contact one of the Co-Chairs to make a request.
